The universe of the Whitefish is set far in the future of trollkind, over ninety-thousand sweeps after the coronation of the Empress. This means that the principles it operates on should not be taken for granted based on the original, canon Alternia. The setting will nonetheless feel familiar to those already knowledgeable troll culture, but with some radical restructuring of society to accomodate the era. The lore documented here is subject to change over time.

Primary Material

Below is a list of links to each of the lore documents which will help you get accustomed to the universe and make your character. Links are given in a recommended reading order, but you are free to skim as you please.
That said, if you don't read the setting document first, you will have no idea what's going on.

  1. The Setting Document explains how Her Empire is currently situated. It provides information about the government's structure, early life and education, and finally assignment and working life.
  2. The Whitefish Ship Manual is, as the name might suggest, a manual provided to all crewmates employed at the Whitefish. It is a (nearly) all-in-one information dump about what the Whitefish is, how one arrives at the Whitefish, and how one goes about their life on the Whitefish. Expect everything from ship policy to the various square footage tiers of hiveblock accomodations.
  3. The Troll Creation Guide provides all the in-setting rules for troll biology with specifics. It also goes more into depth about the different departments, which represent the division of labor in the Empire.

Reference Material

Below is a list of links to lore documents which you are not expected to read as thoroughly. They include specific information on a single aspect of the setting, and are meant to be turned to when you have a question that can't be answered elsewhere.

  1. The New Alternian Calendar is a calendar showing the 24 perigees and 730 nights which go into a full Alternian sweep. If you don't take a peek at it now, just know that 2 earth years is equivalent to 1 sweep. It is currently a Google spreadsheet.
  2. The Ship Mapbook is a catalog of all the different sections aboard the massive Whitefish. It can be viewed as a plaintext list or as an interactive chart. It includes a lot of very useful information, you'll definitely be referencing this.
  3. The Sector Code Guide is a short discussion about sector codes, not be confused with the section labels for spaces on the Whitefish. Sector code notation is used to indicate a specific volume of known space to any degree of fractionality lower than 1/8th of known space. You will probably look at this once when you're writing something and then complete forget about it.
